Do you have a friend or family member in a marriage crisis?
It seems everyone I know, knows someone who's marriage is in crisis!  We as Christians want to spare people we love unnecessary pain, suffering, and certainly the devastation of divorce.  Unfortunately, often times we are helpless to make a tangible difference in these situations.  Many friends and family members are looking for a key phrase to say or a successful intervention program to suggest...

If only we had some "magic remedy" for the marriage crisis.  Prayer is our best form of intervention for both spouses in a deteriorating marriage.

If there is one spouse who wants to save the marriage and one spouse that doesn't, it is important to pray specifically for both of their needs and healing during this time.  I tend to use the terminology of stander (the spouse who wants to save the marriage) and prodigal for the one who doesn't, especially in situations where sexual sin has pulled one away.

Whatever action you take, do it with love, patience, and Jesus.

Prayer  for Couples in Trouble

Heavenly Father, we come to You in a  time of great sadness.  Our hearts ache for  _________ and  __________.  It seems that their marriage is being torn apart by forces that we do not understand.  We care deeply for them Lord, and we know that You hate divorce.   We know that You are a God of restoration and Your healing powers are big enough to repair the damage that has severed their relationship.  Help us to know how to reach out to them Lord.   We feel helpless.      Give us wisdom to know when to speak, words to know what to say, and discernment to know when to be still.  We ask You to hold  _____________  and ____________  in the palm of Your hands.  Father, reunite their hearts and rekindle their commitment “until death, they do part”.   In Your mercy  give them the grace to forgive one another, as You have forgiven…give them direction to find their way into Your plan for their marriage and in doing so, back into each others arms.   Give them comfort Lord, knowing that we are praying for them and we care.   ~Amen
